What is a fetus?

A fetus is your unborn child that is growing in your womb (uterus). It is a scientific name for the stage that follows embryonic development.

What does LMP stand for and mean?

It stands for Last Menstrual Period and it refers to the first day of your most recent period.

Why is it important to know my EDD?

The EDD acts as a cornerstone that we use to follow along in the pregnancy and base the care we offer off of that. In order to offer timely and relevant information and management.

Can I come in for a scan only?

Yes, that is possible. We do request that you come in with the report from your previous visits if possible.

Does the EDD change, and if so why?

If your EDD based off the ultrasound is aligned to the EDD generated by your last menstrual period(LMP), then it will not change as the pregnancy progresses. However, if dating is only based on the LMP and a later ultrasound shows a discrepancy, then the EDD will change.
